“Lester Kenney Memorial Scholarship Fund”
An annual scholarship fund set up on this date, January 7,
2007 by the directors of the KMRO-Motorcycle Riders Organization of Kentucky
inc., to memorialize Lester Kenney, a dedicated member of the organization who
believed our children are the future. All rights of ownership of this
scholarship fund belong to the “KMRO-Motorcycle Riders Organization of Kentucky,
Inc.
Scholarship Fund:
The scholarship fund will be One Thousand Dollars
($1,000.00) awarded annually with proceeds from the State Office of the “KMRO –
Motorcycle Riders Organization of Kentucky, Inc”.
Eligibility:
Open to all members, their children or legal dependants, or
to any associate member attached to a primary member of the Kentucky Motorcycle
Riders Organization in good standing, and to the legal dependants of affiliate
organizations contributing to the scholarship fund, wishing to pursue a post
high school secondary education or those currently enrolled in an academic
institution with at least one year remaining. This scholarship cannot be
awarded to the same individual twice. If an applicant fails to win the
scholarship they can re-apply as long as the eligibility and application
requirements are met.
Application Requirements:
All applicants must submit documents proving they are on
track to graduate high school within the current year, or have graduated high
school, or have successfully completed a GED program, or are currently enrolled
in a post high school academic institution with at least one year remaining.
All applicants must submit in writing an essay of at least
one thousand words. The cover page attached to all essays will include the
applicants name, address, phone number, parent’s names, affiliate parent’s names
or the associate member’s primary member’s name. All essays submitted will be
typed, double spaced with a font size of at least twelve. The essay should begin
with a brief biography of the applicant. The body may include personal
achievements, interest, or hobbies, or life experiences. The essay should
conclude with a detailed emphasis on educational goals, and professional
ambitions. Due to the selection process no essay shall contain any member’s
name, affiliate members name or any other information that may disclose the
applicant’s identity. If an essay is received that contains information
disclosing the identity of the applicant or their relationship to a specific
member or affiliate the application will be disallowed and voided.
All documents are to be submitted to the State Off ice of
the KMRO no later than May 1.
Selection Process:
All essays will be judged based on originality, content,
and writing skills by the KMRO Board of Directors at the May Board Meeting. All
applications will be opened by the State Director of Business Affairs. To
prevent any bias in the selection process the identity of all applicants will
remain anonymous to all voting board members. All cover pages containing the
identity of the applicant will be removed by the State Director of Business
Affairs who will assign a number to each application. All documents associated
with the applications will be cross referenced with the assigned number. Copies
of all essays will be given to each voting board member. All voting board
members will select the best two essays based on originality, content, and
writing skills. The two essays will then be openly discussed by all board
members before a final vote is called. Should there be a tie the State President
shall exercises his rite to vote to break the tie. The essay receiving the
majority votes will be determined the winner of the “Lester Kenney Memorial
Scholarship Fund”. If the winner of the Scholarship Fund should decide not to
further his or her education the funds will be awarded to the second place
winner.
Scholarship Presentation:
A formal presentation of the scholarship will be made to
the winner by the President of the KMRO at the July Board of Directors meeting.
Scholarship Distribution:
The
winner of the “Lester Kenney Memorial Scholarship” will be notified immediately
by the Director of Business Affairs. The Director of Business Affairs will set
up an account in the amount of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) with the
academic institution the recipient has chosen in the recipients name to be drawn
upon for any associated educational expense up to the amount of One Thousand
Dollars ($1,000.00). This fund cannot be transferred to any other individual or
academic institution and must be used within one year from date of award. Funds
not used will be refunded to the owner of the scholarship fund, KMRO-Motorcycle
Riders Organization of Kentucky, Inc., by the academic institution.
